It's a wedensday morning and I had the honor of waking up to my kitty licking my face for about an hour. I swear sleeping works by either not getting up, or getting up as soon as you wake up. There's no middle ground there. If only that damn cat wasn't so cute.....

Yesterday I wrote much of the paper for this project (GnuJournal). I enjoy writing like that. Perhaps it's because you take direct pride, sometimes, in what you are trying to tell the world about. The project is worth 20% of our networks grade but I think it's slick as hell. Plus I am starting to experiment with multi-threaded code so maybe I can make it even better.

As far as Duluth goes it was an interedting day yesterday. One shooting a couple blocks from my house and some sort of fire about 3 houses away. It's hard to study when there are cherries flashing through your blinds.

Oh, and I leave for Austrailia in a week and a half! Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked :-)

Sunday.... it's a gorgeous day. Of course I think that's because I have so much to do today. Well, from a studying pov anyway. I went to the Saloon last night and it was a good time. DVS-1 and Christian James drove up to play for the Northland and it was quite the treat. CJ was very BBBish (but not nearly so retarded) in that he was slammin from track to track. Very fun. DVS-1 played some killer techno, something that Duluth never gets to see.

Ok, time to get some stuff done. Will write more later.

Hrm....well, it's been an interesting day. Starting at 10pm yesterday someone launched a DoS attack on the MNVibe server. At the peak it was eating up 4.7 Mbps of Sihope's bandwidth. To give an idea, MNVibe is fairly large and it usually uses about 120 kbps. Ben actually pays for only 64 kbps, so this was kinda shitty.

The attack was a lame one. It sent udp packets of 476 and 856 bytes to random ports on glowstick. Eventually Sihope blocked udp packets in the high ranges at their border router. This got us back to the "operational" status we are at now.

Yay for script kiddies. Fucking lamers.....

Damn time likes to fly by. It's a thursday night already and the semester is almost done.

Ok, this is just a ploy to add a new entry :-)

Well, it is 9:30 on a wedensday morning, and that is exactly what it feels like. It seems these days that sleep is a distant concept that never really materializes itself. Sure I lay down, close my eyes, and sleep, but that feeling of rest always escapes me.

Alas, thank god for coffee.

Hrm, well I never know what to say the first time I use one of these. This is GnuJournal. The simplicity of this web interface hides a lot of details but it is a pretty slick system. Granted there is a lot of work to be done to make it truly portable and easy for end users to use, but you have to start somewhere.

It is still snowing like crazy outside. It is bad enough to nullify any advantage my off-street parking gave me, as I am parked a block down where hopefully show drifts will miss me. I think we had this coming for a while though. It was *far* too nice for too long. Damn you Duluth.

I decided to apply to graduate school as well. It was an idea I had on the back burner for a while but with the economy the way it is, and my personal goals changing, I think it is time now. UMD is an obvious choice because it is a comfortable place and I know many professors and students. I am concerned though because they may not have the sort of experience available that, I think anyway, I am looking for. Oh well though, applying only eats $50 each time you do it right?
